Security Fence Underway with Locally-Made Cement Blocks

Nkhotakota, Malawi –
Yissah Foundation has commissioned DESO General Dealers to produce 5,250 cement blocks for the construction of a 144-meter security fence that will enclose the secondary school construction site. The decision to use cement blocks was guided by their strength, durability, and suitability for Malawi’s varied weather conditions.
The planned fence will consist of 48 concrete panels, each measuring 3 meters in length. The block molding is scheduled to commence in the second week of March 2025.
Concrete blocks were selected due to their superior fire resistance, better compressive strength compared to traditional bricks, and environmentally friendly nature. The fence will secure the project area from encroachments and theft during and after construction.
